Drew Roth born in Cleveland, Ohio 1958 is a primitive, expressionistic artist who began painting in 1980. From 1983 to 1986, he established himself as a major force in the Cleveland art community. Since his move to NYC in 1986, Drew has continued to build a strong body of work in an effort to influence the New York art world. He creates paintings in his Soho studio.
Many of Drew’s paintings have been influenced by his travels. In particular, his journeys to Mexico and Southwestern US. Much of his work has a tribal or totemic flavor.
Combined with a visionary use of color his subjects spring to life that is both communicative and engaging. Each painting has its own personality.
Drew’s work is filled with frenetic energy and is ever changing: it’s drawn from a synthesis of his journeys and thoughts.
